How to actually see it from Reykjavík
Three things have to line up: activity (the Kp above), darkness and a clear northern horizon. Get away from city lights, look north, and give your eyes twenty minutes. Cameras pick up colour long before eyes do — a grey shimmer on the horizon often photographs green.
Kp is a global index updated every few minutes, and substorms can spike activity with little warning — if the forecast shows a peak, it is worth checking the sky either side of it, not just at the listed hour.
