Alerts come from the National Weather Service public API, the same source that feeds weather.gov, and are refreshed every few minutes. Marine advisories are counted separately: they are usually the largest group by number and cover offshore zones that belong to no state.
This page is not an alerting service. Do not use it to decide whether to shelter, evacuate or travel. For that, use weather.gov, NOAA Weather Radio or your local emergency management, all of which will reach you faster and will not be down when this page is.
