What is Kp Index?
📉
The Kp-index is a scale from 0 to 9 used to characterize the magnitude of geomagnetic storms. Kp 5 or higher indicates a geomagnetic storm, which greatly increases the chances of seeing auroras at lower latitudes.
Best Viewing Tips
- Find a dark location away from city lights (Light Pollution Map).
- Look towards the magnetic north.
- Cameras can capture auroras even when they look faint to the naked eye.
- Best times are usually around midnight.
