About the Station
The International Space Station (ISS) is a modular space station passing overhead at an average altitude of 400 kilometers (248 miles). It circles the Earth every 90 minutes at a speed of 28,000 km/h (17,500 mph). It serves as a microgravity and space environment research laboratory in which scientific research is conducted.
