How this ranking works

Every number here comes from NASA's FIRMS system. The VIIRS instrument aboard the Suomi NPP and NOAA-20 satellites scans the whole planet several times a day and flags pixels burning at fire-level heat. We collect the last 24 hours worldwide, attribute each detection to a country and rank by count and total radiative power (FRP, in megawatts).

Two honest caveats: satellites detect heat, so crop burning and gas flares appear alongside wildfires, and cloud cover can hide fires from a passing satellite. This shows active burning — not fire perimeters or evacuation zones. Always follow local emergency services.
